Stereo install 99 Intrigue

How hard is it to install a new double din ?? Daughter is wanting me to put in a new stereo from Crutchfeilds.

Its been many ,many years since Ive done any and never had to pull trim pieces and other misc parts out to install one.

Any help would be great !

Thank You

Hey Larry,
I have had the stereo out many times in my son's '99. He had his aftermarket rig stolen twice. This last time he said "dad can you put the OEM back in, I'm done". Anyway, it is not a big deal at all, and if you are buying from Crutchfield they will send very detailed, accurate instructions on how to do it. But, in a nutshell, you pull the two screws at the front of the armrest storage, gently pull up the center console trim from around the shifter (put the car in neutral), pull off the bezel around the radio/heat controls and then unscrew the 3 screws that hold in the radio. Done. I do believe that one shop where he had an install done did a mod on a panel near the back of where the OEM radio sits in order to gain some depth. Not sure if your install would require that.

Re: Stereo install 99 Intrigue

Thank you !

I did call crutchfields, to make sure that there would be a master install sheet included. So that makes me feel a bit better on the install.

Now this weekend I will be installing new rear window regulators on both rear doors.I found a video on how to replace them and it looks fairly easy.

Thanks for your time Sir !

Re: Stereo install 99 Intrigue

Hey, I have done the window regulator thing a few times too. Yes, not too bad a job. One word to the wise, unfortunately from experience: pry the "window switch plate" from the rear. There is a small plastic tab that extends under the front edge of the plate, and then the plate snaps down onto the rear "spring clamp" (not sure what to call it). Many, many of us have snapped off the plastic tab while attempting to remove the switch plate.

Secondly, I would spend the cash on decent "limited lifetime warranty" regulators and keep the receipts. I bought my last one at O'Reilly auto. I have replaced the driver's regulator at least 3 times. I used the Ebay $38 variety a couple of times and finally went with the $100ish version. No problems since (yet).

Here is the video I found and he shows how to pull up on the window switch plate from the rear, but on the passenger side someone already broke it....lol.Wish I could find a new one or I will a look out on ebay.

I found a gas filler lid for my 05 GTO on ebay for 35 bucks painted the same color (torrid Red) and a body shop wanted 135 to paint my old one.Saved myself 100 bucks....strange how I walked out to the car one day and the clear had just lifted off of the paint.

If you look at the video let me now any others tricks, that they may not show.

Again thank you for your time !
