95 Taurus V6 3.0 OHV Cam Sensor???

Does anyone know if a 95 Taurus Wagon GL
V6
3.0 OHV has a cam sensor or cam syncronizer?
I've read alot of threads about them wearing out
and causing poor engine performance. I found a
local mechanic that I trust to agree to do the work
and to let me provide my own parts.So off I go to
the parts store where they tell me that car doesn't
have a cam sensor it has a distributor with an ignition
module it can't have both. So where is the cam sensor?
Car has had complete tune-up recently platinum plugs
new wires, cap and rotor, trans flush, coolant flush, belts, hoses,
thermostat. Car gets poor mileage has no power and
has exhaust smell runs rich, surges at idle ( in park only )
Haven,t even mentioned crank sensor.... any ideas?

CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

1995 Ford Taurus 3.0L EFI 6cyl

The Camshaft Position Sensor is located:


Under hood, driver side, rear engine area, mounted on rear of intake manifold


IDid you do the tune up yourself or a shop??
I assume that if a shop did the work they would have replaced the cap and rotor if it had a distributor.

When you stand in front of vehicle looking at the firewall, look underneath the throttle body area for the camshaft sensor. The syncronizer is like a distributor and goes into the block and is driven by the camshaft. IF you replace the sensor it is suggested to replace syncronizer also. Stay away from the Dorman or Cardone syncro they do not last. Get a motorcraft.

Do you have a check engine light on??? Have you checked for any codes??

Have you checked for any vacuum leaks as this will make the engine run rich.

Have someone read the fuel trims, that will help with diagnosing.

The cam sensor problem that OHV owners experience is the gear driven driver that drives the oil pump and sensor. Not the sensor itself. First evidence of the problem is an intermittent chirping/squeaking noise that comes from the driver side of the engine. Left to neglect, it can freeze up and cause engine failure because the oil pump stops.
If your problem is purely the sensor, then this situation does not apply.
