Protege Not revving up

I have a 2000 Protege that was sitting for awhile and trans was bad had trans put in ran fine and all of a sudden it starts running badly and will not rev up will run halfway on flat ground but hit a hill and will just about stop. Any suggestions what I might try would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My Mazda is a 1.6 and everything works like it is supposed to except revving up . If you hold it to the floor it will finally make it to around 3000 rpm but has to be all the way to the floor to get this. New plugs wires and all that and the problem started all of a sudden. Thanks
