Tranny Swap

Just a quick question. Will a 2007 4T45 MN5 3.05 ratio tranny out of a Malibu, work in a 2001 Grand Am GT 3.4L with a 4T45 MN5 3.05 ratio tranny?

Re: Tranny Swap

I found a 2001 grand am transmission with 59,000 mi and installed it, triple checked all connections, changed filter and put in the required amount of fluid, but it acts like its slipping. I can't get it past 2000 rpms or it cuts out. Otherwise, it idles great and there are no engine trouble codes. Do I need to have the PCM flashed when I install the same identical tranny? I have read where others have installed trannys without have to flash pcms or do anything special. Please help.

Re: Tranny Swap

if you installed the same transmission model then you do not have to flash anything. But since you changed the fluid, I'ld suspect that you didn't put enought, hence why it slip.

My suggestion would be to check the fluid level first.

Re: Tranny Swap

There's plenty of AT fluid. I even started the car so the torque convertor would fill, then I took the full level plug out, lowered the car and added fluid until it came out the full level hole.

Re: Tranny Swap

welcome to AF bilgerat57 .

Have you got this thing to go yet ??
If not, was the used trans from a GT also ?

Also how long have you allowed it to warm up before checking fluid level?
Its mighty cold out, could take an hour to warm it up fully.
