Replace a 2005 Buick drivers side mirror

I have a 2005 Buick Park Avenue Ultra SE. It is heated with turn signal and self dimming. It is the DE7 option which is a self dimming mirror. The mirror is clouding up because there is a jell in the mirror and it must have cracked somewhere. I would like to just replace the glass only, because the car has a 3 part paint, white, pearl and clear coat. To find the exact mirror assembly, it is next to impossible. I have tracked down a used replacement mirror and would like to know how to remove the old mirror glass and install the new one. GM wants $450 just for the mirror glass and $1200 for the whole assembly unpainted. UGH!!!! Can anyone help?
Thanks
Bill

Re: Replace a 2005 Buick drivers side mirror

I own a 1999 BPAU with auto dimming heated side mirrors. Last year, the driver's mirror did exactly as yours with almost a burnt spot at the 1 o'clock position. After inquires and research, I purchased an aftermarket auto dimming mirror to the exact specs-shape-size that taped over the existing broken mirror.

It is easy to apply as is cut precisely so as to mount right up to the existing molding. I was hesitant to purchase such a small piece of mirror for $30 from a company in California but it has worked out well.

If you read the description in the given link, Tech II is right. In the note, the company states that the autodiming feature is eliminated.

Re: Replace a 2005 Buick drivers side mirror

Thanks for your help. I have placed an order for a mirror glass through the link I was given. I can live without the auto dimming. Hard to find and expensive. I am going back to my 1951 Ford.

Thanks again to everyone.
