Power Steering Leak

Hello, I have a power steering fluid leak (kind of bad) coming from where the steering linkage goes into the top of the steering box (pitman arm?) 04 F-150 FX4 off road. This leak occured after some mudding off road one day. Is there a seal I could replace or will it have to be the whole steering gear mechanism? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Power Steering Leak

You'd be best looking at a reman steering box. If the seals are leaking there's gonna be wear in the input shaft or the sector,(pittman),shaft on an off road truck of this vintage. Not quite clear on which one you're addressing. But either one you'll wind up cheaper replacing the unit in the long run.

Re: Power Steering Leak

Thanks DP, right on, it was the steering input shaft seal to the rack & pinion. Going to cost me about $500 for a re-man & installation. That will teach me to be a little easier on her back in the woods & mud!
