98 Caravan, Wiper problem

My wipers quit mid wipe. I think it might be the motor. Here is what I know. I can hear the motor when I turn the wipers on, but they are stuck in the middle. If I push the blades down, it gets through the middle of the stroke, but stops in the middle again on the next pass. The solvent squirter is not working (yes there is wiper fluid). I am not hearing a grinding or anything

The guy at the auto parts store said it's probably the wiper transmission. Never heard of that. Checking it out now

Re: 98 Caravan, Wiper problem

There are several linkage points that tie the motor to the wipers themselves. Everything is located under the cowling. The cowling comes off very easily. There are 3-4 torx head screws to remove and a few support brackets. You might have to unhook the wiper line too. I would start by spraying some lubricant on the linkages. As for the solvent squirter, that's a separate motor located in the "wiper" fluid reservoir (bottle). If you can hear it whirring then there may be a plugged line. These motors do go bad however.

My guess would be the park switch in the motor is toast. May be able to disassemble the motor assembly and clean it.

Re: 98 Caravan, Wiper problem

Thanks for the responses. I got a new wiper motor and installed it. I am not very mechanically savvy, but I got it done. I had some screw ups that I will post to maybe help others who try it.
The plastic that goes over the wiper arms, is very fragile (I broke both of them)
Make sure to unhook the hose (I broke that too)
The wipers come off kind of hard, I got frustrated and kind of pried on them with a pair of needle nose pliers and a piece of wood.
In order to get the motor out, you need to take off the nuts on the linkage to the right and to the left since one of the tubes is part of the wiper motor mount.
Make sure you remember exactly where the wipers were, and exactly where the little are on the motor was (I put everything back together and it wasn't even close) and had to tear stuff apart 3 times.
Other than that, it is not horrible
Good luck
