2008 Chevy Uplander traction control

I have a 2008 Chevy Uplander EXT LS that has the traction control and stability control service lights come on. They seem to be coming on more and more. They come on and stay on till i shut it the engine off and restart. Most of the time when I restart it they come back on. Not sure how to fix this. The ABS light DOES NOT come on. HELP PLEASE cant afford to take it in and fix it Snow is coming soon too.

The system must be scanned for codes to pinpoint the issue, this requires an abs capable scanner not just a low line obd scanner.

As Max stated, need to know the codes. A common failure is the harnesses to the speed sensors. Without a code though, it's all guessing...

GMtech1, since stability control light came on, did these Uplanders have the steering wheel position sensor on the end of the columns? Replaced a ton of them on cars.....

You are correct, Tech II. There is a steering position sensor on this van and that may also be a problem...One more reason to know the code!!!

Re: 2008 Chevy Uplander traction control

I did have it checked out a few years ago and they said it was going to cost $700 and it was a vacuum leak but they didnt go into detail so i could fix it myself.

No vacuum leak is going to cause this problem.

Re: 2008 Chevy Uplander traction control

The codes for the traction control are C0138,C0139-Brake related. C0460, C0461- Steering Position. And C0131-traction control.

Re: 2008 Chevy Uplander traction control

The C0131, 138 and 139 are all brake pressure switch related. It is internal to the BPMV. You can get used BPMV/EBCM assy's for MUCH cheaper than new, but you don't know what you are in for with used parts.

These three codes can also be set by the EBCM only. No way to test them separatly.

The C0460 and C0461 indicate the need for a new steering position sensor.
