importing a soarer/aristo

I was wondering if anybody knew a way to import Artistos or Soarers from Japan to the U.S. I am going to buy one while here in Japan and was told that Toyota can write me a letter stating that the car meets safety standards. All I would have to do then is have it shipped over. Does anyone know if there is truth to this.

:flash:

you have to make it emissions legal first then ship it...a letter wont do it
it has to pass through customs and such...
ive heard it costs a lot to do it and you would be better off buying a sc300 here and doing a TT supra engine swap if you want it for the turbos

I agree. In order to buy a car in Japan and have it imported, the best way to do it is to buy an American-spec car (including all of the proper labeling stating that it conforms to EPA and NHTSA specs) while you're there. Buying a Soarer or Aristo off of a Toyota showroom floor isn't going to work. It'll cost you more than TWICE the amount just to have it brought up to spec.
