Breaks gone soft.

When it rains it seems to pour. Driving around on my Chevy Malibu 99 3.1. Parked on an incline and engaged the emergency brake. Upon returning, I jumped in the car disengaged the emergency brakes and suddenly my brakes went soft. I drove to an emergency garage not far from were I was. The guy there helped and fixed my brakes. He told me he put in a new line, bled the system, and added break fluid. He told me the brakes will be soft but will tighten up as I drive on.

Is this true? I've been driving for a few hours and I have to double and triple pump the breaks. Any advice?

Re: Breaks gone soft.

Thats BS. He may have helped you out but not as much as he helped himself. Sounds like theres still air in the system. Stop driving it any further than it takes you to get it somewhere to be fixed properly. As George Carlin once said..."When you step on the brakes your life is in your foots hands".

Re: Breaks gone soft.

I agree with DeltaP.....once he touched those brakes, he was RESPONSIBLE for them, and that he should not have given you the vehicle if the brakes were not in working order.....

The fact he said, "He told me the brakes will be soft but will tighten up as I drive on. ", means he doesn't know what he is doing......

Do not, by any means, drive this car, it is not safe.....

You have two choices......you call him, and ask him to have the car towed to his place of business and fix it correctly, OR, you have it towed to a reputable shop and have them repair it....
