Stripping old paint

Hi everyone,

Quick question about paint stripping. I got myself an used 1/12 tamiya caterham which has been painted probably with tamiya ts paint. It's fully cured and I want to start over. Parts are metal and plastic.

I know about brake fluid, but it's not easy to find around. Do you have any suggestions which are easy to find, easy on plastic/hard on metal and not too toxic?

I generally use oven cleaner in the first instance, it doesn't work with all paint, gunze do a paint stripper as well but I found that that required a bit of elbow grease.

I use 100% Isopropyl Alcohol. Strips Tamiya and Auto paints like Zero easy as. I've never had an issue with it making plastic brittle like brake fluid can either.

I use LA'S Totally Awesome,works for me,no complaints...
and it's inexpensive,like 3/4 bucks for 64oz...

Sorry for being a wise ass but why strip the thing of paint? is it chipped in places? rough finish? i would only use a fine wet sandpaper (the best primer is that coat of paint in my opinion) A drop of soap and a drop of amonia and you remove all grease and oil that on that old layer of paint, and you only need to remove the shine with the wet sandpaper! (you need to have a matt finish and your new layer of paint will stick perfectly)

+2. Safe and effective, always the first thing I use. Works fantastic on Tamiya TS.
