2006 Montana Fuel Filter

2006 Montana 3.9:
Went into 'limp mode' (dash says 'reduced engine power').
Mechanic friend scanned it:
It indicated Cam Sensor. He bought a Cam Sensor but the next scan indicated Thottle Position Sensor. TPS is not available separate from the throttle body ($335.00)
It seems like it might be a dirty fuel filter to me but it looks like the only fuel filter is on the pump in the fuel tank. Is that the case? Auto parts people say no other filter. Is there something we can do besides the full blown job of pulling the tank, and removing the fuel pump; some kind of additive or treatment to clean the fuel filter?
Why is it still the norm to have the pump etc. in the tank where you can't access it??!!

Doubt the problem is with the in-tank filter, but have seen lots of problems with the TPS. The only way to get the filter is with the fuel pump module assy, and that is more than the throttle body!

I'm thinking about getting a throttle body from the wreckers. Is there a way to get the TPS off of the throttle body, although they will only sell them as a unit? Are the TPSs riveted on; can they be drilled off? That would be easier than changing the whole throttle body; is it an easy throttle body to change; probably tricky seeing it's a van?

Can't remove the TPS without damaging it...Get yourself a new throttle body gasket before you start. It's not a bad job to do, just take your time and be patient!

Pretty sure this is a TAC system setup, no accel cable......The throttle body is all one unit......about the only thing you can do is make sure the harness connectors are tight, and there is no break in the wiring....

One thing to try, clean the throttle plate and bore......key out of ignition...then disconnect neg, then pos cables.....now hold the cables together for a minute....reconnect the pos, and then the negative.....have code cleared....see what happens...
