1995 sunfire starting problem

when u turn the key it starts to turn over for half a sec then stops. when u stop it sounds like the starter is still spinning. battery is good. it use to do it some times but if she tried a couple times it would start. could it be where the wires go in or the whole thing? could it be somthing else besides the starter?

Re: 1995 sunfire starting problem

If the starter engages the flex plate, and still sounds like it's spinning, it's one of two things.....either there are teeth missing on the flex plate and the starter spins and has nothing to grab....or the starter drive is shot.....

Re: 1995 sunfire starting problem

every time i turn the key the motor will turn over for a second or two then sound like the starter just spins. if i try again it will turn for a sec the sound like it spins again. if it was the teeth would it still turn the motor every time?

If you see the belt moving, the engine is turning, so I doubt it's the teeth.....it's the starter drive.....need a starter....

Re: 1995 sunfire starting problem

yesterday i took the starter out and had it tested and it was good. i had them test it 3 times and the everything work the way it should. i put it back in and still not working right. somtimes i can get the car to start but not most of the time. what else could the problem be? it there a way to bypass the switch and turn it over from under the hood?

Re: 1995 sunfire starting problem

You tested the start for you? I have take what I thought was a bad start to Napa and it tested fine, but I knew it was the starter so I got a new one. I put it on and everything worked. think that maybe Napa was Right I took the new off and clean the connection points on the old one and it still did not work. so just because it test fine does not always mean it is fine.
