A/C compressor clutch plate trouble

hey guys,

I'm using a compressor clutch kit to try and pull off the compressor clutch plate from my '96 LT1. Using the tools I got the clutch plate almost all the way off but then it stalled. Ive broken every one of the remover screws trying to get it off the last bit.

Any advice? I'm consIdering picking up a 3 jaw puller to get the job done.

Thanks

Alex

the end of the shaft does get distorted. push the plate back in and using some polishing crocus cloth and some oil work on the shaft surface. try again. if it hangs up apply some heat to the plate close to the shaft. use a small propane torch tip with the puller cranked . it should move then try cranking all the way off.

post back how it worked out. I would be surprised if you do get this to work out. I would replace the compressor.

the jaw puller will remove it . but it will get bent up.

Unfortunately had to take it to the mechanics to get it done. Ended uP replacing the compressor and it cost an arm and a leg!

Yep you said it j_cAT, they charge out the wazooo. Unfortunately I needed the car for thanksgiving travel and didn't have time before then to replace the compressor. Totally justifies the money I spend on special tools and parts though!

having the tools to do these jobs is handy. problem I have is many of the tools sit for months collecting dust. the stores that supply these seldom used specialty tools is good . sometimes they don't have the specific tool .

I hope the adjusted the rear mounting compressor ear , so that it does not stress out your new compressor.
