Manuel Mode In 2000 BMW 740IL

Hi
I just recently bought a 2000 bmw 740il. I would like to know how to drive it in manuel mode. The manuel isn't very helpful and I am somewhat leery of messing with the manual transmission until I know what I am doing. Thanks in advance

If you have the "Steptronic" automatic transmission then the technique is to put the gear selector in the middle gate position and then gear changes are accomplished by tapping the gear shift lever up or back to shift.

If you have the traditional automatic transmission, the the gear selector lever is placed in the number you want to drive in and moved as you want to change. The instrument cluster display will display S for sport mode and the number of the gear you are using.

Beware that manual mode will force the car to start in the gear you have selcted, so make sure to downshift before taking off from a stop.
