Zero paint 2k clear question

I have a quick question. Can i put 2k clear on tamiya TS metallic paint? Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

Yes, with no problems. I've tried it over most paints, even enamels and it worked well..

Hi guys,

Thanks for the information everybody. I try'd it on Tamiya TS paint last friday and all went very well. I think i finally can work with 2K clear without issues. I did not say i mastered it, but the results i get with it are getting better and better. One quick question. Can you polish out 2K clear and what is the best way to polish it with? I have some dust in the clear coat. Thanks in advance.

It can be polished but it's a lot of work cause it's a very hard clearcoat.

I always use some sandingpads like Novus or Micromesh in gritt 3200 till 12000 and sand the dust away. Then I use some different polishing compounds like Tamiya and Commandant Cleaner. That will work.

When I use the Zero 2K clear I always add more thinner to it, so it will be like water. I get much better results now and I don't need to polish it anymore. But be carefull cause the paint will ''run'' if you spray too thick.

Hi Kris,

Thanks for the explaination, I don't have runners. I just have some dust in the clear coat. I also thin the 2K clear after i spray a few light coats. I spray the clear until it levels and stop, so i don't need to polish. This has given me excellent finishes and didn't need to polish. Thanks.

As you've already stated you can thin it right and need virtually no polishing, that's why I love the stuff..!! But if any remedial work is necessary I always start with a fine micromesh paper and work up if needed till I remove the dust particles. Then, I've had great results using car finishing compounds instead of the usual model compounds. Meguiars Ultimate Compound, Meguiars 105, Meguiars 205 and also the Menzerna range have given excellent results on Zero 2k clear coat. They also come in a big bottle so you get a lot for your money and they'll last for a very long time..

Agreed! I use menzerna after 2 or 3000 grit wetsand. @k is awesome, though I can't comment on Zero since I have DuPont. $35 for 1 quart and hardener. I will never run out...well almost
