Hi, my name is Aaron, and I'm a car noob.

So this thread is serving a few purposes:
First to introduce me, Hi I'm req21, my real name is Aaron, please feel free to call me either. I come from a family that knows cars, my dad knows a lot and has built a few cars from the ground up in his day. Me on the other hand knows nothing, don't get me wrong, I love cars and working on them, I just never learned what the hell I'm looking at, I was the guy just holding the light . Now I'm 17 and I got a somewhat stable job I want a car, my parents can't really help out with a new car. I saw this as opportunity to learn hands on. I'm going to get some reading material to get a basic idea of whats going on, then I hope to buy a fixer upper to put to practice what I learn.

Which brings me to my next thing: Any suggestions on a good first car to fix/rebuild for a beginner. Something not super expensive part wise with a good market for parts. I was thinking something American, personally I love Chevy Novas, but again I want something that will work for a beginner.

Thank you guys for your advice and help, both on this post and future posts! I'm glad to be here, and I will try to keep up with your expert car talk, but remember I really know nothing. I'm going to pick up a "For Dummies" book and might take a intro class at my community college.
