Toyota AE86

Hi guys,

the Nissan Skyline is finished, so I need to start a new project.

I picked up this Aoshima AE86 from my pile. I have it already a few years in my stash and it's my first modelkit I ordered overseas from Japan.

The original Buddyclub wheels are already used on a Honda Civic last year, but I had these SSR MK2 wheels from Aoshima saved for the AE86.

There is just one colorscheme for this car and that's the Panda paint. Black and white! The wheelcenters will be red.

I hope to start it soon, cause I want to finish the Isetta and Messerschmitt first.

Kris.

I'm constantly amazed by how many models you have going at the same time and progressing together!
Got a similar kit in my stash also, will be good to see how it builds up

I always build two models at the same time as t works the best for me. I can focus on one of them. Normally I never have three projects at the same time.

Re: Toyota AE86

New update. First I made the panellines a bit deeper. Then I painted the primer, and used a black marker for the panellines.

Then I painted it with Ibis White (AUDI), and did the same with the panellines between the layers.

Now it was time for the masking. It took a lot of time, but it payed back when I removed the masking tape

Meanwhile I painted the wheelcenters in primer, and followed with some revell 53 red. It will get some clear when I clearcoat the body.

I also made a custom tailwing. Just a simple but effective spoiler.

Yesterday I clearcoated the body. I really love the result:

I need to start on the engine now, cause I want to change some little things.

True, very true! Indeed, masking is a time consuming job, but I can tell you that every time I remove the masking tape from a model, I feel just like a 3 years old child who opens a Christmas present!

Keep up the good work, mate!

Re: Toyota AE86

The body is polished and yesterday I painted the windowtrims.

I also painted the windows and added them to the body.

Now I'll start brainstorming about the engine.

Re: Toyota AE86

Last days I completed the Supra, so I had to focus again on the AE86.

First thing I did was adding the lights.

I finished the engine part, but I wasn't happy. The original air manifold was just an ugly thing. So I separated the engine and start again with my own idea. I wanted to add ITB's. I made them from aluminium tube (electronical connectors) and I also added red sparkplugwires.

I also scratchbuilded a strutbar. I made it from some wheelspacers, evergreen plastic and a steel rod. I really like it

I had to cut the chassis at several points to fit the wheels and get a nice lowering. I also cutted away some material of the wheels cause they are way to wide.
I removed the molded exhaust a bit cause I want to make my own exhaust.

And a dryfit with the engine and the stance:

Re: Toyota AE86

Job WELL done!
That paint job looks super and the panel lines look very natural. It seems that is hard to do on a white car, but you have done it very well.

Awesome Kris!
