I Hate this @#*+%$ car
I dont know if I couild ever buy a Buick again.
What a POS We git it running great, but theres soooo much little stuff to do. No dash lights for one we got a new/used swithc and the worked for a couple days then quit again. Turn signals didn't work, we ended uo changing the switch and only half work. Brake lights had the center and pass half working. wiring in the back is OK so we replacen the brake switch. Now only half or the center works nothiong else. all the fused in the gbox and under the hood are OK. and on top of all this I cant find a schematic for the brake lights so I can trace the wiring down. I even sighned up for alldata apparently its alldata except what i need... the wiring dia. So does anyone know where i can get the diagram? i got to trace it down from the start, tom get Joes car going. He got this to go back and forth to school in. So any help opn the diagram would be nice. Thanks tinner 1993 Buick Regal grand sport 3.8l Last edited by tinner105; 10-05-2012 at 10:17 PM. |

Re: I Hate this @#*+%$ car
I checked the wiring in the trunk everything loked good.
No previous splicing etc. It had power on the pass side via a green wire to the brake lights. Nothing going to the drive side brake light wise. So we switched the brake light switch and now only 1/2 of the the rearwindow brake light works. I need a diagram so I know where power should be coming from. Tinner and btw from a schematic i found the brakelight switch has to connectors running to it. The two wire on is for the brake lights and I pulled it and it has power going to it. the other connector is for the cruise/abs Also a little more history on the car. We replaced the turn signal switch... they all work except drivers side rear. Last edited by tinner105; 10-05-2012 at 11:15 PM. |

Re: I Hate this @#*+%$ car
Well, now we have the year.......20 year old car....assume you just bought it, and inherited other people's problems that were neglected, so the car sucks...
Just for ha-ha's what's the mileage? So we switched the brake light switch and now only 1/2 of the the rearwindow brake light works. Are you talking about the center stop lamp? If yes, bad bulb or socket.... If you have power to the right rear bulb, but not the left rear, it's the wiring between the directional switch and the bulb, or the directional switch itself.... |

Re: I Hate this @#*+%$ car
I'd say WIRE DIAGRAM, Volt Meter and New Lamps / light bulbs.
Check bulbs with OHM meter or continuity checker.... all of these function are included in DVM / DMM (digital multimeter.) Also use Deoxit spray on sockets.. and maybe dielectric grease and spray inside multifunction lever (turn signal switch) if accessible. -Ed |

Re: I Hate this @#*+%$ car
Milage is a bit over 100k
3rd brake light havn't dug into that one yet. could be the bulb/socket TECH II "If you have power to the right rear bulb, but not the left rear, it's the wiring between the directional switch and the bulb, or the directional switch itself..." We changed the turn signal switch already because the majority of the signals didn't work and it wouldn't hold position. I think we got the fronts and half of the backs after. but still no backlights on the left side. So are you saying the wiring for the brake lights go thru the signal switch? Without a wiring diagram i wouldn't even attempt to track anything down. Like I said alldata didn't have anything that would help. And I cant find it as of yet. |

Had this happen when i first got mine and it happened twice more in 8 years....it's always the combo switch. (A used one will cause the same issue) I take it apart and bend the copper contacts down as they get fatigued over time. (had no park/stop or indicators on passenger side)
Hope this helps

Re: I Hate this @#*+%$ car
On this year car it's not a "multifunction" switch.
I believe those had lights wipers and all kinds of stuff. This is just the signals and pull back for high beams. its a 1992. WE already changed it also. with a new one as well. Tinner I need wiring diagram and i cant seam to find one. And believe me in have looked. |

Re: I Hate this @#*+%$ car
Yes the brake light circuit goes through directional switch......do the hazards and directionals work?

Re: I Hate this @#*+%$ car
Just for the heck of it we pulled the wheel off to check out the switch.
Didn't see anything out of place but also didn't really know what we were looking for. But we did check the emergency lights and the left side rear are not working ( thats the side the brake lights dont work also) So onward we go. tinner still looking for a schematic |
