Trying to determine what type of differential?
Looking through the Dodge service manual and I notice for rear differentials there are several different ones mentioned 9 1/4, 9 1/4AA, 10 1/4, 10 1/4AA, etc. I will at the very least have to replace the pinion seal, its leaking and was wondering what type of lube to refill with and according to the manual its different for the different type of rear end..
![]() I will be taking the back plate off to drain out any old oil and inspect...hopefully will be able to recognize any problems. I am worried something big may be wrong since I am hearing/feeling a noise/vibration whenever I take foot off the gas and coast or slow down for stop lights at low speeds. (I started another post of that issue looking for pointers.) |

Re: Trying to determine what type of differential?
Page 150 in the '01 FSM,
"AXLE IDENTIFICATION The axle differential cover can be used for identification of the axle (Fig. 2). A ratio tag is attached to the top of the differential cover."

Re: Trying to determine what type of differential?
I didn't find one on mine either but the cover has been off before and I guess they chose not to put the tag back on.

Re: Trying to determine what type of differential?
We use 70-90 & 70-140, GL6 non-synthetic lube in the shop racecar differentials and other differentials.
