97 camaro "upper dash pad".
My 97 camaro's upper dash panel (right under the windshield) is all screwed up. I see a lot of those replacement pads that supposedly fit right over the old one. Has anyone here ever bought one and liked it? And if I WANT to take the old busted up one out, will the new panel still fit right, or do they HAVE to go over the old one? Any experienced advice would be appreciated.

Re: 97 camaro "upper dash pad".
I don't have a fourth gen Camaro but I do have the dash pad/cover you're referring to. I have a third gen Camaro and my dashboard has eagle claw cracks everywhere and it's hideous! I put a plastic dash cover over it and well, it's warped and squeaks all the time. It honestly looks worse than the cracks. I would recommend a carpet protective cover, i'm not entirely sure on the name. But it's a black(or whatever color you prefer) carpet piece, much like the one already in your car, that goes over the dashboard. It has holes for the speakers and vents. I looks fairly good too. OR, just look through a junk yard and find a new dashboard. I found a brand new one on eBay for 300 bucks which is kinda over priced but I couldn't turn it down.

Re: 97 camaro "upper dash pad".
Thanks stephen for taking time to reply! I'm surprised I haven't got more comments on this question from 4th gen owners...I thought this was a very common problem!! (He aftermarket dash pad I saw online is $140.00, and I can't tell if it has the vent louvers in it. I called the place and they couldn't even tell me!!!!! My vent louvers are all busted out, so even with the carpet on the dash, the vent in the middle still looks crapy! Hopefully SOMEONE has ordered these and installed them SOMEWHERE!!!!! Thanks again, and have fun with ur 3rd Gen.

Re: 97 camaro "upper dash pad".
Well, let me answer my own question!!...I did find out that the aftermarket plastic "dash covers" do NOT have the defrost vent louvers on them. I did however find a used one on Craigslist. It has a few little scratches in it. I paid $250.00 for it. People said how hard it is to get it installed without cracking it, but after removing the "A pillers" it went right on with no problems!! Reason for the simple install?...I believe its cause I PRAYED first!!!! Sure looks so much better now! So glad I did it.
