2005 bad radio draining battery
Hello,
We have a 2005 Accord. The radio started to malfunction over a year ago. The clock display and everything just stopped working. Disconnecting the negative battery cable would reset it but then it would stop working again a short time after. Sometimes with the car off, you can hear the radio making a sound, like it's trying to eject a cd. Whatever its doing, its draining the battery. I have to jump the car about once a week. I called the dealer and they said the radios for this year and model are known to be faulty but the fix is expensive and we cannot afford it. I'm pretty handy but not so much with stereo/ electronics. If there is a fix out there, I am willing to try it. Please help. Many thanks, Thomis

Throw it away, put a nice aftermarket $120 Pioneer head unit in there...you can get a wiring adapter so the install is plug and play, and a mounting kit that anyone can understand, they are very simple.
For $150 or less, you'd have a much better stereo than what you had. Seems like usually the jap OE head units have cracked circuit board failures, not something you can readily repair...

Ugh. Now I see the issue...just loked at some pics of the OE setup...damn.
 This is an option...otherwise, I'd say the odds of finding a salvage unit at all, much less one that works correctly, would be slim. And I'm sure they'd want a mint for it... I don't like the way they do that with stock car radios lately... Anyway I'm sure that car audio places have the proper templates to deal with installing an aftermarket unit in place of the OE that fits the cavity and looks factory. And I'm sure it's still cheaper than having an OE replacement, and as I said, you'll have a much better unit anyway...
