I figure if you're going to mod your car-- mod your car. I really dont think it would matter that much. It might make a little bit of a difference, but I dont know about anything huge.

I don't know about tuning our car, but IMHO I think that manuel transmission (in raceing) gives you a little more power than an auto. I just think that they race better.

Depends on what type of racing you're doing.
Street Racing- doesn't matter
Road Racing - MT
Drag Racing -AT

well for this particular car ... w/ a 2.2 or 2.4L motor.. your best bet is to go w/ the manual transmission.

I know for a fact that if you want to be fast anywhere w/ the 4cyl on this car you need the manual.. the autos make you usuallya round .5 slower in the 1/4... just shitty gearing, and poor gear changes...

manual is the best way to go.. but than again.. I ask myself this question all the time so you're not alone... Why a grand am?

I like manual better.. That's what mine is.. It gives me something to do and I think their pick up is way faster once you're past 2nd. Automatics get the initial punch, but once I'm in 2nd and then up to 3rd, I'm gone.

the only postive mark i can think of bout an auto is the fact that ya track number will be consistant. im not saying this is a good thing but a lot of drag racers today are runnin with autos i understand y but to me wheres the fun in drag racing an auto. i think someone mentioned depending of the type of racing. i must say i agree.

the only thing i wish was different on my car is that i wish it was a manutal. manuals are so much more fun to drive. plus it would have an extra gear which means the gearing would be a closer ratio. so if you have the same over all final ratio but you have an extra gear in there spacing it appart it would be faster right? anyways, i used to drive a car witha 5 spd. and i miss it alot. but here is one good thing about an auto i figured out...it is way easier to eat cheese burgers while driving
