Question Is this a good deal?

Today I've came across another car. An 89 Civic Hatch with dual point fuel management, d15b1 bottom end, 95 SOHC VTEC head---blown head gasket. The guy wants 700 obo for the car but I'm feeling iffy about that head gasket problem. Is the deal worth it? Can the gasket be fixed if so how much? Would you buy it?

It seems like a good deal? Just replace the head gasket. Make sure the head and block is fine though.

I've personally never delt with a blown head-gasket so I don't know much about them. If I did buy this car could I drive back home. Or would I be able to drive it at all? Would it crack the block if I did?

I wouldn't drive it. Its gonna fuck up the motor even worse. Just get it towed to your crib.

If its got a decent body/interior, I'd still say its worth at least $500.

Like mellowboy said, check the head and block. Its possible to warp the head, then it will never be right. Do that when you do the headgasket, since the head is already off.

head gasket is what like 60 bucks so if you got any friends that could do something like that for you than you should get it, if you gonna have shop do it, it can get very pricy, you know how they are, you might just replace the whole head see if you can find anyone selling a dx head for cheap, im getting an si head myself for 100 bucks, i know ive seen heads for sale in the classifieds thread...

I think I might get it. The guy selling it said if I did get it he would paint the car any color I wanted because it does need a paint job. All in all I think its a good deal.

If it's a D15B1 block with a 95 vtec head....that's why it has a blown head gasket. Anyways, those head gaskets are only like 20 or 30 bucks at autozone. Try your autozone first. The problem with that motor is that the block is rated at only 70 HP and the head is rated at 130 HP (on the block that it originally comes with.) I think they are trying to get too much out of that block do a swap or even find a cheap D15B2 block (92 HP). Then get a new head gasket and your good to go. If not I thing you might encounter more problems down the road with that block and head setup. That's like the strongest d series head with the weakest d series block. That's NOT what you want. Can someone else help this guy?
