89 fuel pump problems

aquired an 89 pickup ,with the 2.4 fi engine.

car wouldn't crank. the fuel pump was dead, so I've replaced that, BUT I'm not getting any power to the pump still.

the fusebox seems ok, but there's no covers for them so I don't know what is what. I've tried tracing wires, and not found any issues from the pump back to the spot where it enters the cab, at which point, since I'm not going to puull the seats as well, i lose it.

i'm having to walk for parts and no parts shops in town have any manuals for this.

Any thoughts, suggestions, help v appreciated.

Re: 89 fuel pump problems

Without the owners manual of schematic it is just taking shots in the dark. You could pull and test each fuse either by sight or with an ohm meter (recommended), however this will not test the relay(s).

Re: 89 fuel pump problems

I found pictures of the fuse boxes and covers that identify the individual fuses and relays. Hope this helps!

Re: 89 fuel pump problems

Does indeed help, joe.

I did get it started not long after I posted the original question (I was doing all this at someone elses house, so it slipped my mind to post I'd got it started) turned out I needed to push the plunger-switch to reset the fuel pump, the one by the fuse block under the driver-side dash. Soon as I did that, fired right up.

I *do* need that fuse diagram though, because there's a fair bit of wiring work needs doing in there. Whoeevr owned it before my wife's uncle put a lift kit on, and kludged some kind of stereo and amp in there (and put the steering wheel back on a bit off!)

I also know it'll need some engine tune up work (it's got the ticking) and some cleaning (you wouldn't believe how much crap was under the bed-liner, and an ant colony was in/around the forward passenger side bed mounts...

We'll see how this all goes! Thanks again Joe.
