Hole in brake rotor

I replaced my rear pads and rotors on Friday; I didn't notice that the new pads didn't include new hardware until I had the truck all apart, so I had to reuse the old hardware to get to work that night. Picked up new hardware today and when I pulled the wheels off I noticed a hole in the rotor that looks like a welding gouge:

Basically what I want to know is whether this was a manufacturing defect in the rotor that I can get a replacement under warranty on Monday, or could I have done something to cause the damage, in which case I'll just grab a new one today.

Re: Hole in brake rotor

Might be a void in the casting caused by contamination (water or dust) in the mold core.

Re: Hole in brake rotor

The "cut" marks are the non-directional finish, supposed to be there on new rotors, but the hole is a defect as Blue Bowtie mentioned.

I have never seen in all my years non directional cuts that deep .

non directional cuts are made with 320 grit sand paper. just a very slight cut to aid in the pads seating. with new pads and new rotor this is all that is needed. unless this is some chinese warped rotor made from soft steel.

anyone out there reading this post , when you see a new rotor like this one go else where ! even if it is free.

Re: Hole in brake rotor

before you put new rotors on you should clean the cosmoline off with brake clean.
the defect would have been caught then
