2004 Chevy Impala won't start with new battery

Greetings, I left my interior light on in the car all night which I assume has caused my car to malfunction and not crank. Today when it did start the battery light came on and stayed on. As I started to drive, the ABS warning light and TRAC OFF warning light both came on and started flashing at the same time and caused my car to slow down. I assumed it was a battery issue since the battery light wouldn't go off, so I replaced the battery; however, with the new battery, the battery light continued to stay on, and as I started driving again, the ABS and TRAC OFF warning lights came back on and now the car won't start again. Any idea what could be causing these problems? I'm a woman and don't know much about cars, so I've been reading the car manual. Could a brake system issue cause the car not to start? (Additional info: 100,000+miles).

The battery light staying on is ususllay and indication of a charging problem. Have you alternator checked, it has probably failed. Thats why all the lights are coming on, low voltage condition will set codes in modules.

Most parts stores like Autzone, Pep Boys, any of the big ones, will check your alternator for free.

Re: 2004 Chevy Impala won't start with new battery

when you do something that causes the battery to be discharged/die you must first recharge the battery with a battery charger.

placing jumper cables from another vehicle with your dead battery causes many times voltage spikes/surges. this then damages the computer vehicle systems, also is not good for your battery with a too high of current charging the dead battery.

for safety remove the connections of the dead battery from the vehicle. then place the jumper cables on from the charging vehicle. now there should not be any damage to the onboard vehicle systems which are always ON ! KEY OR NO KEY !

as mentioned have the charging system checked for proper operation. with a vehicle of this mileage, the dead battery or improper connection of the jumper cables could have caused the charging system to fail , and also the electronic controlling devices.

report back what they found .

The interior lights turns off by itself after a certain time when key is off.

It could be the alternator and/or the PCM.

Or your car is in "protected mode?", so you need a reset with a scan tool and check if you don't have a code stored for ABS or TRAC.

Or just turn off the TRAC I don't know if it will work.

A Windstar without having the check engine light is not a real Windstar.
