2006 sierra rust prevention steps?

I recently purchased a 2006 sierra, which is very solid, with no rust anywhere. My last truck rusted out pretty bad. Is there any steps I can take so the typical problem areas on GM trucks wont rust out? I take very good care of my vehicles washing and waxing them. I do live in Michigan though, so salt is part of the problem. I used the rhino liner on my last truck on the rocker panels and cab corners, but didn't catch it in time. Any ideas or thoughts would be great.

rhino liner is pretty much the beat next to that is the 3M tape but that can only be installed on the paint
