Exclamation Pontiac question

My question is: it's been almost 2 years and why did Pontiac (from General Motors) becomes defunct and never make these cars ever again?

Re: Pontiac question

Matter of economics and poor planning......

GM had too many redundant models.....look at the "W" body......Grand Prix, Regal, Century, Cutlas, Lumina....basically the same car, just different levels options/quality.....

As for Pontiac, they made changes too late....and some of the changes were disasters......never really marketted the Vibe.....

The 2 seater Solstice? Had to be a contortionist to get in.....could not use the center console while driving....the chinzy cup holder on the passenger side(probably an afterthought, since there was no room in the center console).....

The "G" cars? G8 was a poor substitute for the Grand Prix...G6 replaced the Grand AM......G6 hardtop convertable had no trunk room.....rattled......and if it had to be repaired, costly.....poor marketting ploy naming them "G" cars that had no recognition to prior models.....G3 and G5 came out too late, for the small car market....

Then there was the GTO major malfunction......getting rid of the Firebird......makes you wonder about who was leading Pontiac to their doom......probably got promoted and led GM to near bankruptcy.....

Hmm...Good answer - but a sad and a pain-in-the-neck one...

It seemed that GM had to close down Pontiac in order to save some money for other GM brands (like Cadillac, GMC, Chevrolet, Buick, etc.)

BTW, thanks for answering the question, Tech II.
