What will 2.3l engine fit in?

I have a 95 Grand Am that my son had an accident with and the frame/body has been hit one too many times to straighten again. We have about 50,000 on the rebuild and I would like to find something else to put it in. Will a 2.3 bolt up into a Grand Am that has a 2.4 in it? What are the differences and what would I have to tweek to make it work? I appreciate all help I can get on this one. Thanks!

Re: What will 2.3l engine fit in?

Good luck making the computer accept the new engine.

Ideally, you would need to replace the engine, transmission and ALL of the computers (ECU, BCM, airbag, abs, instrument cluster, cruise control and the radio) as they are tied to the bcm password, which is based off the vehicle VIN number. Also all the wiring would have to be replaced. or atleast badly hacked up.

The PCM has been programmed based on the target engine and transmission.

In other words: if it's not the same engine, you can't really swap without lots of hacking in most cases. The only easy swap would be if they use the same sensors in both, and that the parameters are the same... then maybe it could work...

Re: What will 2.3l engine fit in?

I was afraid of that but sometimes you get surprised like the time I found out a 3.1 (prior to the 3100) was a boltup replacement for a 2.8 in my 89 grand prix. Thanks for the info! I really appreciate it. Now just need to try to find a 95 ga to put it in or just sell the engine and be done with it and find something else for the kid to drive. Thanks again!
