05 escape cruise control erratic
I have a 05 escape with the 2.3l approx 125k miles...When i set the cruise it floors itself for a few seconds before it sets then while its set its very erratic going up a hill it will shift 5-10 times. It accelerates too far then lets off to long then floors itself again to make back up the speed...it makes it pretty worthless any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: 05 escape cruise control erratic
Being a 4-cylinder, it's best not to use the speed control.
4-cylinder + load + hills, it will down shift regular. Have you ever had a sticky accelerator pedal yet? If yes, see http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=949299 Last edited by danielsatur; 06-18-2012 at 08:35 PM. |

Re: 05 escape cruise control erratic
yeah i know its a 4cyl and they tend to be a little lacking in power especially seeing this one is awd, i just dont understand when i set the cruise it has to floor itself, shift and accel 3-5mph before it sets. then if a set it at 55mph it has to pulse from 50-60mph going up a hill each time shifting in and out of overdrive. I can drive it manually up a hill without it grabbing third gear why cant the cruise do the same?

Re: 05 escape cruise control erratic
question is-
you are driving at 55mph, no wind, flat long stretch, you set the cruise control and slowly remove your foot from the pedal- how does it act |

Re: 05 escape cruise control erratic
My 2005 Mazda tribute 4-cylinder cruise will act normal down hill & long flat streach.

Re: 05 escape cruise control erratic
I'd be interested in knowing if there is a way to tweak the cruise/sensors so that it will react sooner to a hill load instead of waiting until it gets so slow that when it finally tries to accelerate, it must down shift. Happens pretty often in my 02 V-6.
I have no problem with setting the cruise initially for it to stay at that speed like meow does. I'm thinking for that problem the contacts in the switch are dirty, or pitted, or melted some and aren't releasing immediately. Or whatever spring device is in the switch isn't rocking it back out of contact right away. |

Re: 05 escape cruise control erratic
Thanks!
How about trying to disable the overdrive during Hill climbing. |

Re: 05 escape cruise control erratic
Went on Blue Ridge parkway, NC. & had to disable the OD, because of down shifting + raised RPM's.
4-cylinder + 300lbs weight |
