BMW e36 m3 GTR
I had my doubts if i should even open a thread about this as the one from my previous project was moved away but since a few people have been asking about it, i thought, what the hell
It is the 1:24 bburago m3 die cast i am currently working on and let me tell you, i am working my butt off on this one The model in stock form is very bad and is really just a car toy so my plan was to modify it to make it look like it could be at least made by tamiya.. here are pictures of the stock model for comparison i found on the internet ![]() I had too much trouble with making the doors and the hood sit right and straight with the rest of the body work so in the end i just glued them shut. I made a small design modification on sides of the front bumper and fabricated a splitter in the front and an extension on the back, similar to the original. I also made the missing trim on the back of the front fenders. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I resin casted the kidneys from the purple BMW and extended them a little to make them fit on this one ![]() ![]() ![]() I noticed that on the real car the b pillar is not visible from the outside so i cut them away. I did the same with the mirrors ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The interior is quite bad too so a lot of modifications very necessary.. The front seats look out of proportions and are very flat.. .. So i used new ones taken from an enzo and reshaped the center area ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I covered the front door panels with ĻaluĻ tape for protection and covered it with plastic glue from the gun to make a mold. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After i glued the bonnet on the body i thought i wasted my time building a new engine.. but i might use it after all.. The problem is that there is supposed to be a turbo but there is no space grr.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The stuff i am using in case someone wonders.. ![]() ![]() There is a lot of scratch building going on as you can see so i hope i didnīt missed anything.. there is still a lot to be done but i am getting there..

Re: BMW e36 m3 GTR
Your scratchbuilding methods are inspiring! Can you tell me what clear plastic did you use to form the headlights?

Re: BMW e36 m3 GTR
I thought I was the only one bothering to transform this toy into an actual modelcar
) Looking forward to seeing more on this model.

Re: BMW e36 m3 GTR
I am one of the asking ones! LOL
so happy u shared it also here.with the work u are doing, why not open also the foglights on front spoiler? Burago mould theme as grilles (as the "kidneys" between front lights..), but in reality they are just light holes, and in GTR's they are full open to increase air over brakes. The dashboard u are working on is referred to a pre 95 restyling version car (passenger side airbag is missing) so just be careful when u will place the side arrows cause the position is different and the post 95 cars have smaller ones. Think about it, cause this model really worths the resin clonation IMO. We really miss racing m3's (e36, e46) in our scale. At least for the late e92 there is the ALMS slot body.I was also planning to buy the m3e46 die cast, but found it only in american ebay and the shipping cost pass the value of this I-dunno-quality die cast. Too nice, hope u will finish it with the classic Motorsport colors, and thank u for sharingm Ale.

Re: BMW e36 m3 GTR
Thanks guys, really appreciate it that i was not wasting my time making this thread
@kaho Cant say for sure what plastic that is.. plexiglass or lexan maybe? I bought it from a hobby store which also sells styrene sheets.. It is 0.5 mm thick but i am sure you could use any thin clear plastic sheet for this kind of work @euro_z No, the bonnet will stay closed as there is too much trouble with getting it sit nice on the body when itīs opened and this way i also avoid all the extra work in the engine bay that would be necessary by opening it ![]() @da_ashman Actually i try to make every model as good as i can even if i donīt like it that much to start with.. like the honda civic for example But yeah, i do like this beemer![]() @lovegt40 when you really go into details you will find that almost nothing on this car is 100% true to any specific street or race car.. I just look at details on the real car for inspiration and try to replicate it on this model, often making compromises just to make it work. It is also not meant to represent a race car but rather a tuned street car that likes to go sideways, so the paint job will be more.. hmm actually i don't know yet.. something gemballa-ish maybe

Re: BMW e36 m3 GTR
I'm surprised no one's asking you for copies of that engine...
