2007 Ignition Key - Transponder?

We just purchased an 07 Aveo and only got on key. The car has remote entry built into the key, but I'm wondering if it is a transponder key. I'm trying to get another key made and am having problems finding one.

Re: 2007 Ignition Key - Transponder?

I'm confused.....is it a key with an attached key fob(keyless entry) or is this all built into the head of the key?

Look at your owner's manual......check out the theft system......If it is a PassLock system, then it is just a blank key.....

Yes, it has keyless entry and the fob is built into the head of the key, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer on whether there is also a transponder in the key.

I did check the owners manual but all it says is the vehicle may be equipped with an ignition disable.

Re: 2007 Ignition Key - Transponder?

Daughter just bought an '07 Wave, same car. If your key has a lock/unlock function, the key doesn't have a transponder and a regular, cheap normal key that costs $2.95 to have cut will work.

Apparently (from what I can figure) there were two kinds of ignitions for these cars, one with a transponder key and one without. The electronic lock/unlock key sets the ignition disable/alarm when you lock the doors whereas the transponder key enables the ignition whe you insert it.

Be aware, and I can't rememebr the exact scenario, but with the lock/unlock key, the doors will lock themselves after a certain time, 30 secs or so if the key is removed from the ignition. So don't take the key out and chuck it on the seat with the windows up :-)......Mike

Local Ace ordered a key blank and it works great. It turned out to not be a transponder key.

Thanks for the heads up on the auto lock. We've noticed that as well. All the more reason to make sure we had an extra key!
