1998 Windstar w/3.8 - Freeze plug leaking

Replaced almost all of the freeze plugs previously on this engine. Now I have one (the one) leaking that is behind the tranny on the back side of the engine. Is there any possible shortcuts to replacing the plug without removing the transmission??? I have used the rubber expanding ones in other spots but there doesn't seem to be room for anything short of a tranny removal.
