2003 3.8L Impala Transmission - P0742
Hello All,
I normally do all the work on my Impala (as you can tell from my previous threads) but now I think my Impala is having transmission issues that I will not be able to fix! Here is some a quick history about the car... 2003 Chevy Impala 3.8L V6 Odometer Reads - 185,500 miles A few weeks ago the car started leaking transmission fluid from the axle seals and transmission pan. I didn't notice the leaks and the car stopped working because the fluids got to low. So last week I replaced the seals and transmission filter and pan gasket. I will try to make the next part as short as possible for easy reading... - Topped trans fluids off (I might have put a little to much) - Tried to test drive the car but it took awhile for the transmission to finally engage and let me drive. The transmission felt like it was slipping. - Car worked OK for driving around the neighborhood. - The next day I try driving the car and it wont move. The transmission feels like it slipping again! - After letting it warm up a bit it feels like the transmission wants to engage, but then disengages! It takes a while of going forward and reverse to finally engage the transmission. - I am on the road now and it seems to slip a bit and engage hard during takes off from stop lights. - I make it to the freeway and it works pretty good. - I get off the freeway and head home. I take off from a stop light close to my house and the car would started jerking violently after 1st gear. The jerking would get worst if I give it more gas. It would go ahead when I let off the gas or drop down to first gear. - I test for codes and this code appears P0742 for the first time! What do you experts suggest I do? I hope this all made since and wasn't to long of a read! Thanks in advance for any tips and advice you guys can give me! |

Re: 2003 3.8L Impala Transmission - P0742
When you dropped the pan, what was the condition of the fluid, and was there any metal on the magnet?
Fact that you drove the vehicle so that the fluid was low. does not bode well for your clutch packs.....especially at 185K..... |
