Pulsar Problems

Hi all, ive just brought a gtir. It is having problems when i am putting my foot down. It will boost from around 3000 rpm but when its in the 4500-5000 rpm its coughing and spluttering. One minute it seems to boost, then it doesnt, then it does you get the picture. now and then there seems to be a plume of smoke from the exhaust.

The car was only brought a week ago and has only been out once or twice for a little while, i havent really give it any becuase of this problem.

I have changed the plugs, the oil filter, the oil and the dizzy cap.

On the boost gauge it starts in the middle and says its boosting 1.5 bar at around 5000 rpm.
I have also tested the car by watching the engine management light flash 5 times long and 5 times short. I was told this error code mean all fine.

Any help would be appriecatiated thanks
