Angry 98 Dodge caravan Rear brake problems

Well my fiancee just bought this car, and it needs a decent amount of work. And she was able to get the parts we needed to fix it from the state, because she's being helped by them to be able to get back to work. Anyhow, we just got most of the parts today, and I decided to start working on the rear brakes. No unexpected problems until I got to the parking brake lever on the shoe. It's rotted out, and there is no way I want to try and reuse it. Don't think that it will last for long. So I tried finding a replacement for it. Evidently it doesn't exist. I tried the major auto parts stores in my area, and I even tried Rock Auto. Nobody has it. It doesn't come as part of the brake hardware kits, and it doesn't come with the parking brake cables either. So I would love some help with this one. The sooner the better. And thanks to all who reply.

Dealership, junkyard, Ebay? In the mean time how bad do you need a parking brake?

Re: 98 Dodge caravan Rear brake problems

Don't know about the dealership, they might just overcharge for that. Junkyard, that would be seriously hit or miss, and ebay I might try. What I would like is if anybody knows if there are any companies that sell the part. That way I won't have to worry about paying for it, if I can get the parts store to special order it. That way the state will pay for it. It's because they are helping her get a job and be able to keep it, so they will pay to make sure her vehicle is in good shape so they know she won't have a problem getting to work. And I'm disabled, so I don't have any money I can help her with at the time. I know I'm asking for a lot, but I'm hoping somebody knows more than I do, and knows of a company that does sell it. If not I'll have to find a way to get the money to pay for it. Not that big of a deal, just would take a little longer. And thank you again.

Re: 98 Dodge caravan Rear brake problems

Just an update, looked on ebay, and dealership sites, didn't find the lever on either. Guess it's gonna be time to go to a junkyard. Any other ideas are welcome.
