Help identify this tool please

I was wondering if someone could please help me identify this tool. I found it in the attic a few years back, it belonged to my dad. I can not remember what it is called nor what is was for. I believe at one time my grandfather said it had something to do with engines.

My guess it is a slide hammer- as in what is used to pull rear axles
