98 with climate issues

The last couple years I have had issues with my climate controls. When going from heat to ac a lot of times I would have to ramp the temperature settings up and down a few times to get the air to finally get cold. I could finally hear the baffles break loose and rotate. This year, the middle servo motor on the driver's side has went out. I have taken it off for now and manually turned the damper to get cooler air until I can replace it.

My issue is the air is definitely cooler but still not cold. I am pretty sure I turned the middle damper as far as it will go - a full 90 degrees. The top servo that controls defrost and the bottom that controls the lower baffle appear to be working fine.

I am not sure if I have an air mixing problem left to fix or a water flow issue. I removed enough stuff under the dash to expose the heater core. It was red hot. I don't know if the heater core on this car is supposed to stay hot all the time or not. If it is, I have an air mixing problem. It it is not, I have a water flow problem. Any input would be appreciated.

Is the passenger side colder then the drivers side? If so then you don't have a mix problem, you are just low on freon.
Yes the heater core is always hot. Don't know why the engineers did not install a shut off valve in the heater core side other then to help the auto system to just use the blend valve for tempature control. But in the middle of summer not having the extra heat in the area would sure be nice.

I agree....if you have moved the temp door(not a dual system?), to the extreeme end and have "locked" it there, it's possible you are low on freon......as for no shutoff valve, the reason there isn't one, is the system uses the heater core as a "bypass", if it was shut off, the car would overheat.....
