I like the looks of the old 5 series better.

I really like the back alot, but the front needs to be a little more boxy, like most other BMW's.

I love it. Very sleek, sporty, stylish... Distinguishable from all of the other Beamers. I think it will be very successful.

I like it more and more every time i see it, but thats only cos i hated it so damn much when i first saw it... the back is very cool, the front, a lot less so.. the lights are slightly wrong, that top part that wraps around needs to be cut off a little... still, have to wait to see it in the skin before my final judgement... for now, its ok

Agree with Crayzayjay, I hated it so much when I first saw it, because I was really not expecting something so radical after the gorgeous present 5-series. I still like the "old" 5 better, but perhaps I'll get used to the look of the upcoming 5, and start to appreciate it... There was a lot of fuss when MB started with the round headlights on the E-class in 96 or so (can't remember exactly when), but nowadays, every Merc has these.. So maybe it's just a matter of adaption..

I just read in CAR magazine from 1998, and in GBU (Good, Bad and Ugly) this is what was on the cons side of the 5-seires: Not everybody likes the looks! Nowadays everyone loves it!

It has to be said it was a conservative design, I think that’s what they meant. But then this is BMW’s design philosophy – evolution, then revolution, back to evolution, and again revolution. Its an ongoing process and has been employed for decades now

The E61 is hideous, the E39 is ugly- The E34 is the only good looking 5-series to date unfortunately

In terms of design, E39 was a conservative step over E34 so how could it have been ugly!

Not so much ugly as it was a sloppy design exercise- the lines seem to go all sorts of places the front looks weak- unlike the strong looking front end of the E34- don't get me started on the droopy rear end of te E39
