Technomodel 250 SWB
Technomodel have just released a new 1/24 kit of a Ferrari 250 SWB available in 4 different variants.
It looks like a simple kit some what along the lines of a Fisher resin kit. They have been concentrating on 1/43 in recent years so its great to see a new 1/24 Ferrari. I already have their Ferrari 575 GTC and it is a flawless product.

Re: Technomodel 250 SWB
Great news. I have a built one of the Tecnomodel 250SWB's and the shape and quality of detail blow the Hiro kit and other 1/24th 250SWB kits out of the water. It looks perfect. It has an engine so is more detailed than most Fisher kits(although Fisher kits are very nice). That looks like a late version('61-'62).
I just remembered the resin engine cover on the built up was nice but maybe metal would be a better material to use(or brass if they want to spend some extra money). Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo 2013-Chicago March 2013 |

Re: Technomodel 250 SWB
Looks nice, any idea on pricing of this, and availability. Just released could mean you can by now, or you can look now and buy next year

Re: Technomodel 250 SWB
This kit was available as a built-up model from Tecnomodel for like 15 years now. Its nice. But nowhere as nice as Tom makes it sound. It is mostly correct, but I wouldn't say it blows Hiro out of the water, especially at the price Tecnomodel is asking for it. Latest Hiro SWB is a VERY good quality kit and is extremely accurate, unlike their first offering.

Buy the Tecnomodel kit and you have the best 1/24th scale 250 SWB kit on the market now. It's still cheaper than the Hiro, but it does not have as nice a chassis as the Hiro. The Tecnomodel photoetch is also much better unless you really like bare metal foil windows. |

Re: Technomodel 250 SWB
For 160 Euro I see it as a great alternative to the 300 Euro Hiro kit.

"Buy the Tecnomodel kit and you have the best 1/24th scale 250 SWB kit on the market now" - I'm sorry, but this is simply not true. Half of this kit is a rip off from 27-year old Ginze kit, that was not all that great to begin with - and that includes the engine, engine bay and assesories, driveline, and interior. Then, when you realize that this kit has no chassis or suspension detail to talk about (I mean, photoetched gas tank and put-through metal axles? Come on!) so the only nice thing you are getting for your money is a set of Tecnomodel wire wheels. And since when photoetched window frames became an attribute of a good model kit? Its a technique used on 1/43 scale kits. They are flat, they are pain to put on, and they never look like a real thing. Might as well just use chrome mylar stickers. So nice kit? Yeah, sure. Best kit on the market, or even best kit for the money? Hardly. Hiro kit is available for $310 shipped from Stradasports. 160 Euro is $215, and that's most likely not including shipping. So, really, would you buy this for $215 or pay $95 more and get much better Hiro kit? That's up for you to decide.

Re: Technomodel 250 SWB
There does appear to be a family resemblance in that body to the Gunze offering. With Gunze's going for $120 with plastic wheel rims and no engine, and the Hiro at $310, the Technomodel looks to me about right at $215. Instead of paying that I'd hunt for some wheels and an engine and just buy the Gunze instead!
I have the original issue of the Hiro SWB. What's improved in their latest issue?

It is a 250 SWB model, but otherwise the Tecnomodel kit has nothing to do with the Gunze. Every bodypanel is slightly different and the seats, dashboard, tires, chassis, suspension and interior are all completely different. The Tecnomodel 250 SWB kit is not a Gunze ripoff at all. The original Gunze kit from 27 years ago does not have an engine so I don't know how they copied it?? The original Hiro kit is to big, closer to 1/22nd scale than 1/24th scale. The body shape also has a few problems. I sold my original 250SWB Hiro kit several years ago on ebay. Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo 2013-Chicago March 2013 |

Re: Technomodel 250 SWB
Old italeri kit (with different wheels) is so bad model?

The $310 Hiro kit will become $400 Hiro kit after the customs get a look to it here in Europe, it's sad but it's how it works. This makes it again $400 vs $215. Don't get me wrong I do have a few Hiro kits, all bought for the right price from eBay within Europe, and they are great and I would also get the Hiro 250 SWB if it was only $95 more but I can't justify the almost double price in my case due to customs taxes. Thanks for the info in this thread, for now I will stick to the Italeri and Gunze versions that I have got, coupled with Hiro wheels these will look decent enough. |
