99 Silverado leaking rain water

I have a 99 Silverado Ext Cab 3 door (new body style). It leaks water from the headliner, at the windshield. I just had the windshield replaced last week and it is still leaking so there is one possible issue out of the way. I just don't know which direction to go now. Where could the water be entering the cab of the truck from? The headliner is wet where it leaks, (which is all along the width of the windshield). It will leak just sitting still in the rain, it doesn't have to be going down the road for the water to get in. Any help, advice would be greatly appreciated before this causes ANOTHER shifter cable to rust and become faulty ...

the windshield being replaced with new gaskets ? did YOU inspect the metal for rust threw ? .

remove the roof liner and find entry point. if the windshield seal is leaking then the glass company should take care of this.

Re: 99 Silverado leaking rain water

The windshield was installed by a reputable local company. I watched them do everything. They put the black stuff on with the metal with what resembled a plumbers glue brush and used the caulk gun to apply what i assume is the gasket around the window. How difficult is removing/installing the headliner? I've got to get this figured out before the water leaking in causes any more issues... Thank you SO SO SO much for any help...

I haven't done the head roof liner on this yet. on other vehicles it is a pain. start new post with how to remove interior roof liner. perhaps someone has done this. It would be required to do this because the water will spread out.

the other item would be to remove the door body frame weather stripping. it is possible under that you have a hole !

it should come off easy. I remove and clean this rubber every year then spray with silicone and wipe off excess..

re-reading your reply the windshield should come with a new RUBBER GASKET not a caulk gasket. the sealants are used to seal the new rubber gasket so when the metal expands/contracts that rubber gasket seals and no leaks. since you were there did they install a new gasket ?

Re: 99 Silverado leaking rain water

99 and up has glue on windshield, not rubber seal. black "gaskets" around windshield are cosmetic and do nothing.
unless he has moonroof, or some on the roof mounted light, there's no other way for water to leak in, but through the seal. glass company must have missed something, it happens.
also, headliner may still be quite wet from previous leak. it's under replacement warranty, let them have it.

Re: 99 Silverado leaking rain water

mgod, I know exactly where it leaks. I had windshield replaced on my 2000 Silvie, and we share same body. It's where mirror wires exit cabin/headliner. I watched guy do it yesterday - they are right in the middle of sealant thickness. And that's exactly where mine leaked until I had windshield replaced 1st time.
