I want new ignition switch that has an accessory position, wondering if anyone has done this? I was thinking maybe an early impala switch might work

The one you have now doesn't have an accessory position?

I learn something every day. I'd have expected it to be like the cars--put the key in, push, turn counter-clockwise past the spring-loaded detent.

First Guess: You'll have to add wires to the harness to get a functional accessory position even if you add a different switch.

why do you need acc. position ? whats needed to operate with engine off ? If this is a radio/amp, hook up to the battery feed . fuse at the source. then use this to supply power directly to the devices or to a switch that can be turned on /off .

just make sure you use #12 wire or larger , so that the wire can handle the amps required. low voltage requires bigger wire.
