98 3.0 code P0446

98 3.0 engine 220k

I have a inttermittent code P0446. I did some invertigating of the hoses at the canister today. Sprayed the wiring connector on the solenoid with a electrical cleaner and lubricant from Radio shack. Added a hose clamp at the solenoid hose to tank (did not seem loose but was not hard to remove) The short hose did not look cracked. The end of the solenoid that the hose attaches to going to the tank can be move back and forth about 1/4". (Is this a problem or made that way???) No kinks or blockes in lines visible. I have tried leaving the gas cap loose at times but it does not matter if cap is loose or clicked in place. Cel just comes on and goes off randomly.

Lately I have noticed it PINGING at acceleration from stop a couple of times.

Any ideas. Thanks
