Re: haynes or chiltons manual

Normally I'd suggest you want a Ford factory service manual, but for some of the information you see, I don't think you'd find it in the factory manual. For example, generally the factory manual will not go in to detail on how to change the spark plugs, seats, or probably even the tail lights. And in case you were considering a subscription to Alldata, the information provided there is typically identical to the factory service manual.

You may be able to find the information you mention above in both a Haynes or Chilton's manual, but they fall short in some other areas when compared with the factory service manual (wiring diagrams, detailed description of operation, etc.).

If you have a decent public library in your area you may be able to review a copy of both the Haynes and Chilton manuals for your car and determine which is the more useful book. Your library may also have access to an online repair source such as EBSCO or Chilton Online Auto Repair Manuals. For what it's worth, the EBSCO service generally is the same as what you'll find in a Chilton book while the Chilton Online information is from the factory service manual (yeah, seems backward).
