VW Golf MK2 GTI

I finally have completed the previous models, so it's time for something new.

As a big VAG fan I wanted to build this Revell MK2 GTI kit, but somehow I never started it. Now it's on my desk YES!!!

And I had a nice set of big bumpers from Scale Production laying around

And for the wheels I had these Aoshima Kai wheels. Don't know what the real name is for these wheels but they look like BBS RS. And the stretched tyres look awesome.

The original seats are horrible, so I'll use some nice resin Recaro's from the Partsbox.

The color i chose is Black Magic Pearl from VW.

Re: VW Golf MK2 GTI

The mk2 always looked better with the bigger bumpers. Will keep an eye on this one. And as always good luck with the build.

Re: VW Golf MK2 GTI

Another update:

First I sanded the body, and scribed out the panellines. The frontbumper needed some work cause I wanted to remove the middle intake. I thought this would be easy but the resin was very thick. I used some heavy force and it worked but in the end the whole bumper broke into 2 pieces. I glued it together and used some metal on the backside for some extra strength. After some putty and sanding there was nothing visible anymore.

So i could primer the body with Zero grey Primer.

When it was dry, I could paint the Black Magic Pearl on it.

On the backside I added 2 little decals. After this I clearcoated the body with Zero 2K.

Re: VW Golf MK2 GTI

After the paint was fully hardened. I wasn't very happy. There was a shine but also a bit of orangepeal. So I decided to sand and polish the paint using the micromesh kit. I started sanding with grit 3600 till 12000. After that I used the following compounds to get the shine back.

Commandant 3, Tamiya Course (red), Tamiya Polishing Compound (blue), Tamiya Finish (white), Micromesh scratchremover, and Mequiare's carnabau wax

Now it was time to paint the flat black wheelarches, sideskirts and bumper areas. I masked off the whole body and painted it Flat Black using Zero Paints.

I also painted the windowtrims by hand with semigloss black.

And handpainted the red trim around the grille.

And I painted the doorstrips flat black and glued them in place.

Re: VW Golf MK2 GTI

Meanwhile I'm not really busy with modelling but so now and then I do something.

First I started with the interior. I painted it black and added some flat clear. After that I added some black interiorflocking.

The resin seats were to big for this interior, so I changed them for some spare seats.

I added a ScaleProduction steeringwheel.

The wheelspokes are painted Ferrari red and got some clear. I also added 3D Porsche logos.

Only need to do the chassis and engine. I will keep it simple.

Kris.

Re: VW Golf MK2 GTI

In my opinion the rims dont fit this car very well, maybe its the chrome, maybe its the red paint but everything else looks good!

The rims go hand and hand with the grill. True Vagfans will love it!! Good luck with the rest of it.

Re: VW Golf MK2 GTI

New update.

First I painted the chassis and installed the crappy engine. Everything fitts really good I have to say.

I also painted the rearlights. They are painted smoke/clear red. Just how I like to see them in real life

The frontgrille and frontbumper were glued in place.

The little side mirrors were painted black after I added some copperwire for extra strength and to prevent I'll lost them in the future.

A shot on the enginebay.

and a shot from the rear.

I only need to modify the wheels now an a lath so I can glue them in place.

Next update will be a completed model

Kris.
