ABS control module electric problems

My Audi A4 2002 1.8T manual transmission has had various electrical problems starting with the oil sensor and now the ABS light. My local mechanic seems to believe my ABS control module needs to be replaced, and as you know this can be very expensive. What can I do? Is rebuilding it a good alternative? Can other modules fail do to the damage generated in this one? Need heeeeelllpppp! please!
