Anything I need to know about using stright gas?

For years I've used Oxygenated gas. I found a gas station that sells the non-oxygenated gas. People who use it say they get better gas mileage and performance.

I remember years a go when they first stated using oxygenated gas it clogged fuel filters. Something about it sends the dirt through or something.

I have a tank full last night and seems to run better but I don't know yet. The owner at the station said when he first switched, he got a little better and better mileage over time, not just the first time.

Anything I need to know about switching to straight gas after years with oxygenated gas?

Thank you,
Chris.

Re: Anything I need to know about using stright gas?

I've heard a lot of people say that their cars run worse on oxygenated gas. What is does is reduce emissions, but not necessarily improve drivability. However, there's a lot more to gasoline than oxygenation (usually from ethanol). There are the detergents and other chemicals added to keep valves clean, adjust octane, etc. I'm not familiar with all the gasoline chemistry, but I do know that it's much more complicated than oxygenated vs non-oxygenated.

Many engines (lawnmower engine size...) can be damaged by the ethanol content, so landscapers sometimes have to buy premium gasoline to avoid the ethanol.

I tend to prefer Chevron because I've heard it has the best detergent package. I could be wrong, but at least I know it's good.

I hear about nitrogen enriched gasoline. I know very little about it, but my take is that if you add more nitrogen, you're giving your engine more nitrogen to burn and make more NOx, making your catalytic converter work harder. To me, nitrogen enriching seems like a bad idea, but I could be wrong.

Re: Anything I need to know about using stright gas?

After just a few days I got a CEL. I haven't had the code read yet.

A while a go I asked the person who fills up the tankers to all the stations. He told me out of all the brands, the Chevron guys take the most care in measuring the additives.

A mechanic told me when a car comes in with clogged injectors, he has put tecron in and had the cars fix themselves as he waited. I like Chevron also.

I've heard from three people now that the new 76 gas with nitrogen gave them about two miles per gallon more.

With this CEL I'm not as thrilled as I was when I put it in, although it might just be a coincidence.

Chris.
