leaf spring hangers/shackles HELP!

Hi everyone. I have a 1998 Blazer 4wd. It has about 116,000 miles. So I been hearing this noise from the back of the vehicle, like a rubbing sound. I thought it was the spare tire rubbing on the hitch, however when I removed the spare tire I noticed when I push down on the back of the vehicle it still makes the noise. So with a little more research I discovered the leaf spring hangers/shackles are completely rusted and the passenger side is actually broken! The problem I am having is that I cant seem to find a local store who sells these parts for this specific vehicle. Does anyone know where I can order these parts online for a fair price? I dont want to lift it just stock replacements. Also do they sell heavy duty hangers? I pull a camper in the summer and dont want crappy ones. Thanks!

Rockauto appears to have them; you could also find some at a local junkyard no doubt. Might want to spray some PB blaster in there now so you have a fighting chance of getting the bolts out of the bushings.

I looked at rock auto but dont see the shackle or hanger for 98 blazer. I can find the shackle bolt, bushing and the leaf spring itself but not the actual shackle/hanger. Thanks anyway though.

Re: leaf spring hangers/shackles HELP!

I think there's something wrong with rockauto's catalogue. Husky part # 1755 comes up for 1998 Jimmy and S-10, and all newer year blazers (which also have the same leaf spring part no as the 1998 blazer).

Re: leaf spring hangers/shackles HELP!

Awesome. Got it now. Thanks alot for that info. Now I have to make the decision if I should do it myself or have a shop do it. I called a friend at a local shop who said they would charge me $200 for the whole job. Sounds like a pretty good deal but times are tough and scraping up $200 aint easy these days. If they werent actually rusted to the point that they broke I wouldnt even think twice about doing it myself but I got a feeling this will be a real bitch to do with the rust issue.

I would try to do it . why not. If its impossible then have the shop install.

ALL I can say is with my experience dealing with nuts/bolts for over 40yrs that job sucked.

Re: leaf spring hangers/shackles HELP!

Yeah, I second jCat, there's no harm in trying. Mind you, last time I tried to remove them because I broke a leaf I had to give up and dissassemble the leaf pack instead because I couldn't free up the bushing bolts. PB Blaster will be your friend, maybe some heat, and probably an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. Good luck!
