Questions on WRX

Hey All,

I am new to this forum. I am thinking of buying a WRX and i just have some questions to ask you all.

1) Between a WRX and a STI is there any engine part difference?

2) Is there a big speed difference between a WRX and a STI?

3) What kind of Turbo's do WRX's have?

4) What is your opinion on WRX's ?

Thank you for your time. Greatly Appreciated.

The STi has differnt pistons and rods. As well as differnt heads and cams.
It also uses a differnt Turbo, running more boost, as since it has about 40-50 more HP and a lot more Torque, yes it is a lot faster. There are also suspesnion differnces.

As for my opinion on them? well here in NZ i think they are far to common, and a good way to spend lots of money on insurance, gas, and maintaince. (unless you can afford to buy a new one).
Just drive past your local collage, and see how many you can spot in the car park? drive past a Uni or tech and the damn things are everywhere.

They've become a great car with a very bad image, so if you have a high disposable income and don't mind the boy racer image then go check one out.
If however your looking for something a little more descret that you dont have to worry about getting stolen, and you dont like to attract a lot of often negative attention, and you can't afford to replace parts on a regular basis, then maybe have a look at something else.

There is a reason the WRX is a common car.. they are good that is why.. if you want a WRX and have taken them for a drive and like the look go for it.. im on to my 4th one and love them.. in Australia they are common as but there a great car.. the TURBO used on the WRXs are a TD04 and the STi MY02 are the new non rollar bearing VF30.. the difference is a big difference.eg Diffs, 6 speed gearbox, Brembos, leather interior, totaly different engine like cams heads etc etc, wheels, suspension, Zaust... so mate if you can afford hte extra money get the STi or if not dont worry bout the popularity get hte WRX.. if they were that bad no one would by them.. i made 171kw@4wheels running 20 psi and never had a problem with it.. did 100000km and only broke 1 gearbox.. i raced a mates 22B the GOD of all WRXs and beat it by quarter of a car... my car was good for high 12s so it isnt that bad.... go for it mate

You may think WRX is common in Australia but its alot more common over here.

Just because a car is common dont mean its necessarily good, look at the GTX Mazda Familia.

If they wernt so common they would be a nice car, but its hard to attract any attention other than negative (ie from thieves and such) as even in a small place like where Im from pretty much everything has already been done.

Dont let people like me make your mind up for you. Drive one and see if you like it, do you like the way it looks, talk to people who fix them, talk to your insurance company. If its all what you like go for it
